Document 30040
JULES STREICHER. ANS: "Streicher" in
pencil, 1p, 8x5¼. No place or date but, by content, signed at Nuremberg
during his trial. In German with full English translation. In full:
"To the Sergeant on Duty! I ask for a short discussion." One of the
earliest members of the Nazi Party, joining in 1921, Streicher took part in the
1923 Munich Putsch, Hitler's attempt to start an insurrection in Germany against
the Weimar Republic (November 8-9, 1923). From 1925-1940, Streicher was
Gauleiter (Governor) of Franconia. His persecution of the Jews was notorious. He
was the publisher of "Der Stürmer", an anti-Semitic weekly newspaper, from 1923
to 1945. As early as 1938 he began to call for the annihilation of the Jewish
race. Twenty-three different articles in which extermination were preached in
"Der Stürmer" between 1938 to 1941 were introduced in evidence at the Nuremberg
Trials. Streicher was found guilty at Nuremberg and, on October 16, 1946, he and
nine other defendants sentenced to death were hanged. Their bodies were brought
to Dachau, where they were burned; the ashes were scattered into a river. Folds,
vertical fold touches between the "ei", horizontal fold at the upper loop of the
"S". Irregular lower edge. Fine condition.
