CALVIN R. GRIFFITH. Partly Printed DS:
"Calvin R. Griffith" as President of the Washington Senators, 1p,
8½x11. No place, 1956 March 22. In part: "The Washington American
League Baseball Club options to the Chattanooga Southern League Baseball Club
contract of players Ralph H. Groves and Richard E. Hyde for the sum of $100.00
each with the right of recall for $500.00 each on or before October 1,
1956...." GROVES never played in the majors. DICK HYDE pitched
for the Washington Senators (1955, 1957-1960) and Baltimore Orioles (1961),
compiling a 17-14 lifetime record. GRIFFITH (1911-1999) owned the
Washington Senators (1956-1960), renamed the Minnesota Twins (1961-1964) when he
moved the team after the 1960 season. Lightly creased. Staple holes at upper
left blank corner, receipt stamp at lower blank portion. Light show through of
printing on verso at upper portion. Overall, fine condition.
