CHICAGO CUBS: 1932 NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.
Signatures: "Jake May", "Charlie Grimm", "Bob Smith",
"Stanley Hack", "L. 'Dixie' Warneke", "Bill Jurges",
"Gabby Hartnett", "Charlie Root", "Riggs Stephenson"
and "Rolly Hemsley", 4½x6. The New York Yankees
defeated the Cubs 4 games to 0 in the 1932 World Series, which is best
remembered for Babe Ruth's "called" shot in Game Three. In the 5th
inning, Ruth pointed his bat at pitcher Charlie Root, or beyond to centerfield,
and broke the game's 4-4 tie a moment later with a massive home run into the
centerfield bleachers. BOB SMITH pitched in Game One, LON WARNEKE
pitched and lost a complete game in Game Two and relieved from the 1st to 4th
innings in Game Four, JAKE MAY pitched in Games Two and Four, losing Game
Four, CHARLIE GRIMM batted .333 in the series, future Hall of Fame
catcher GABBY HARTNETT batted .313 with a home run, BILLY JURGES
had .364 and RIGGS STEPHENSON led the Cubs with a .444 batting average.
