Document 87036
JUTARO KOMURA. Signature: "J. Komura/Minister of Japan/Jan
23-99", 6½x4½ album leaf. In 1905, Japanese Foreign Minister Jutaro
Komura (1855-1911) signed the Treaty of Portsmouth ending the Russo-Japanese
War. During his diplomatic career, he represented Japan in London,
Washington, Beijing, Seoul and St. Petersburg. "James Smith Jr./1899 New
Jersey" and "Chin Pam Ye/Minister of Korea" on verso. Smith
was U.S. Senator from 1893-1899. Shaded, stained, soiled, lightly creased.
Irregular left and bottom edges. Partial remnant of another autograph affixed
below signature. Two unidentified signatures on verso.
