MARTIN VAN BUREN. Third Person ALS: "M. Van Buren", 1p,
5x8. [Washington], 1821 February 21. Integral leaf addressed to:
"Hon. John M. Williamson/344 N. M St." In full: "M. Van Buren
requests the honour of Mr. Williamson Company at dinner on Tuesday next at 4
oClock, P.M. The favour of an answer is requested." In 1820, 37-year-old
Martin Van Buren, Attorney General of New York (1817-1819), was elected U.S.
Senator from New York, entering Congress 11 days after he wrote this letter.
He served until he resigned on December 20, 1828, having been elected Governor
of New York. Lightly creased. ½x¼-inch hole at blank corner of leaf and from
opening of seal (partially present). Overall, fine condition.
