NEW CONGRESSMAN JOHN F. KENNEDY BUYS "THREE TICKETS TO THE TESTIMONIAL AND
BANQUET FOR MRS. FAY GREENBAUM", A CONSTITUENT
JOHN F. KENNEDY. Early TLS: "John F. Kennedy" as
Congressman, 1p, 8x10½. Washington, D.C., 1947 February 15. To
William A. Singer, Roxbury, Massachusetts. In full: "This will
acknowledge receipt of your letter of recent date, together with the three
tickets to the testimonial and banquet for Mrs. Fay Greenbaum, to be held on
March 4th, in the Hawthorne Room of the Parker House. I would be delighted to
attend this affair, and hope to be able to do so. However, I have been pretty
well tied up with committee hearings, which will no doubt continue for the next
several weeks, and therefore cannot state definitely at this time whether I
can be present. Nevertheless, enclosed please find my check [not present]
in the amount of $12.00 for the three tickets you forwarded to me."
Imprinted in upper left: "John F. Kennedy/11th Dist.
Massachusetts/Committees:/Education and Labor/District of Columbia". First
elected to Congress in 1946, 29-year-old John F. Kennedy took his seat on
January 3, 1947, just six weeks before writing this letter. Creased. Nicked
edges. Staple holes at upper left corner. Middle paragraph has been circled in
brown with arrow pointing towards it (unknown hand). Folds touch
signature.
