Thanking a diplomat for get-well wishes.
TLS: "LBJ", 1p, 7x9. Austin, Texas, 1971 January 30. On his
embossed "LBJ" stationery to Donald A. Brody, Consul of the Republic
of Malawi, Blantyre, Malawi. In full: "Thank you so much for your
very kind letter. As you may have heard, I am once again enjoying good health.
One of the reasons for my speedy recovery was the many well-wishes that I
received from wonderful people like you. All my best." In 1994, BRODY was
named Honorary Consul General of Malawi in Seattle, Washington by Malawai's
longtime President, Hastings Kamuzu Banda. In 1996, Banda chose Brody to be
his authorized biographer. President Johnson later suffered a heart attack on
April 8, 1972 and died of heart failure on January 22, 1973 at the age of 64.
