NELSON A. ROCKEFELLER
Nomination for the State Mediation Board.
Typewritten DS: "N.A. Rockefeller" as Governor of New York, 1p, 9½x16. State of New York, Executive Chamber,
(Albany), 1962 January 11. To the Senate. In full: "I hereby nominate as
a Member of the Board of Mediation Joseph F. Finnegan of New York City, who was
heretofore appointed during the recess of the Senate and whose term of office is
about to expire, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of George
Moskowitz." Rockefeller was Governor of New York from 1959 to December
18, 1973, when he resigned to begin planning for a run for the 1976
Republican presidential nomination since President Nixon could not
constitutionally run for a third term and Vice President Agnew, the likely 1976
Republican presidential nominee, had resigned on October 10, 1973. Then
President Nixon resigned on August 9, 1974 and Vice President Ford succeeded him
as President. President Ford appointed Rockefeller Vice President
and he served from December 19, 1974 until January 20, 1977, choosing not to
seek election as Vice President in 1976. Lightly creased. Pencil note
(unknown hand) at upper left corner. Fine condition.
