ALBEN W. BARKLEY. Photograph inscribed and signed: "To John J. Riley/Alben W. Barkley". B/w, 8x10. Reproduction of a drawing of Barkley by Aron Perskie. Serving from 1949-1953, Barkley coined the term "Veep" for his office. His name was placed in nomination at the 1952 Democratic National Convention, and he finished fourth in the balloting. Barkley returned to the Senate in 1955 and died in office in 1956. Creased, worn. Nicked and torn at upper right blank edge.
