JIMMY CARTER
Thanks for kind words and a poem after the death of his mother.
ALS: "Jimmy", 1p, 6½x8½. Atlanta, Georgia, 1983 December 27. To
Mike Goff, Gulfport, Florida. In full: "It was good to hear from you
& your mother, & to receive her poem. Your remembering our family was a
true act of friendship following the death of my mother." With
handwritten postscript: "PS We wish you all a fine 1984! J." The
former President's mother, Lillian Gordy Carter, had died in Americus, Georgia
on October 30, 1983 at the age of 85. His father had died of cancer in 1953.
1984 was a busy year for the ex-President. He spoke at symposiums on arms
control, health policies and the environment. In October, he broke ground for
The Carter Center in Atlanta. Fine condition.
