RICHARD NIXON. TLS: "Dick", 1p, 7¼x10¼. New York, 1964 December 1. To Horace E. Henderson, Washington, D.C. Begins: "Dear Hunk". In full: "Shortly after the election I had to go to Japan on a business trip and, consequently, this is the first opportunity I have had to catch up on my personal correspondence. I am pleased to send my congratulations and best wishes on your new position as Executive Director of the World Peace Through Law Conference. Charlie Rhyne, as you know, is a good friend of mine in addition to being one of the most brilliant attorneys in the country. I am sure you will find working with him a most interesting and stimulating experience." HORACE E. HENDERSON had served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs during the Eisenhower Administration. In 1972, he ran unsuccessfully as an Independent for the U.S. Senate from Virginia. CHARLES S. RHYNE had served as President of the American Bar Association from 1957-1958 and was chairman of the ABA's Special Committee on World Peace Through Law. On November 3, 1964, President Johnson had defeated Republican Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater in a landslide, winning 61% of the popular vote and 486 of the 538 electoral votes. Four years later, Nixon was elected President, defeating Johnson's Vice President, Hubert H. Humphrey. Ink notes have been "whited-out" in top right blank margin. Overall, fine condition.
