Document 25051 HAROLD C. UREY The Nobel Prize-winning chemist writes about meeting Einstein and Rutherford. TLS: "Harold C. Urey", 1p, 8½x11. University of California, San Diego, Department of Chemistry, Revelle College, 1975 October 8. To Mrs. Mary Bisceglio, Brooklyn, N.Y. In full: "Thank you for your nice letter which I have taken so long to answer. Yes, I knew Dr. Einstein very well. In fact, I was in his office talking to him a few days before his death. However, I never worked with him, just had conversations. When I went to Sweden to get my Nobel Prize, I met Lord Rutherford. I admired both men very much. There are many young scientists who have the potential to achieve greatness, but I do not feel I should single out any one of them. Thank you very much for your interest in science." UREY was awarded the 1934 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his discovery of heavy hydrogen". ALBERT EINSTEIN won the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect". LORD ERNEST RUTHERFORD won the 1908 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his investigation into the disintegration of the elements and the chemistry of radioactive substances". Urey played a major role in the Manhattan Project, the development of the atomic bomb. Lightly creased at upper margin. Fine condition. SEE IF DOCUMENT 25051 IS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW!!
