GEORGE M. BIBB
During his short term in office, Bibb requests the appointment of a Customs Inspector.
ALS: "Geo: M. Bibb" as Tyler's Secretary of the Treasury, 1p, 8x10. Department of the Treasury, 1844 September 21. To N.F. Williams, Collector of the Port of Baltimore. No salutation. In full: "It is desired that Amasa Leonard Senr be appointed inspector of the Customs at the port of Baltimore in the place of Nicholas N. Robinson." Bibb, a former U.S. Senator from Kentucky (1811-1814, 1829-1835), served as Secretary of the Treasury for just eight months, from July 4, 1844 to the end of Tyler's term on March 3, 1845. Tipped to 8x11 sheet, notes in unknown hand in bottom margin of mount. Lightly creased, rubber-stamped name of previous owner in bottom left corner. Lightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
