Document 145509 LADY BIRD JOHNSON First Lady, 1963-1969. Philatelic Envelope signed: "Lady Bird Johnson/(Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson)", 7x3¾. The Official First Day Cover issued by the LBJ Library bearing the 8-cent Lyndon B. Johnson memorial stamp, postmarked Austin, Texas, August 27, 1973, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. The stamp was issued on what would have been LBJ's 65th birthday. He had died six months earlier on January 22, 1973. Family nursemaid Alice Tittle thought the baby of Thomas Jefferson Taylor and Minnie Lee Pattillo Taylor, Claudia Alta Taylor, was "as purty as a little lady bird" and the nickname stuck. She and Lyndon Johnson were married in 1934 and had two daughters, Lynda Bird and Luci Baines, who both married while their father was President. With four LBJs in the family, it was natural for their Johnson City ranch to be called the LBJ Ranch. Even one of their dogs was named Little Beagle Johnson! Fine condition.
