ROSALYNN S. CARTER
First Lady, 1977-1981.
Check filled out and signed: "Rosalynn S. Carter", 8½x3. Plains, Ga., 1960 March 7. Payable to: "James Chevrolet Co." for 78-cents. "CARTERS WAREHOUSE/PLAINS, GEORGIA" is rubber stamped above her signature. Rosalynn Carter was 18 when she married Jimmy Carter in 1946 following his graduation from Annapolis. In 1953, after his father's death, Jimmy Carter resigned from the Navy to run his family's peanut farm and warehouse business in Plains. In the first years after leaving the Navy, the Carters ran the business together. Rosalynn kept the books. Jimmy Carter began his political career in 1962 when he was elected to the Georgia State Senate. Rosalynn and Jimmy Carter have been married for 55 years and 32 days as of the date of this auction. Show through of bank stamps on verso does not touch signature. Fine condition.
