Written from her husband's rooms at Walter Reed Hospital.
TLS: "Mamie Eisenhower" with holograph postscript signed: "M", 1p, 6¼x9. Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C., 1966 December 17. To President Eisenhower's Secretary of Commerce Lewis Strauss and his wife, Alice. In full: "How very thoughtful of you to send us a smoked turkey for Christmas. Both Ike and I are particularly fond of that delicacy and if all continues to go well we shall be enjoying your gift sometime during the holiday season. Thank you so much for once again remembering us on this special day. With our warm and affectionate greetings to you and yours for the joys of the Yuletide." In a postscript, the former First Lady adds: "Alice it was so good to talk to you (sic, the) other day via the phone. Ike seems to improve each day for which I am thankful." During Dwight D.
