     Document 38798

HARRY S TRUMAN
Senator Truman.
Large Photograph signed: "Best wishes/Harry S Truman/USS Mo". Sepia, 11x14 overall, image 10x13 (one surface). Photographer's name at lower left: "Chase-Statler/Washington D.C." Circular stamp on verso: "Camera Reflection/by Chase-Statler/Hotel Statler-Wash., D.C." This must have been Truman's favorite suit. Another Chase-Statler photograph taken a week after he succeeded FDR as President, titled: "Harry Truman, April 19, 1945", depicts him wearing the same suit and tie with handkerchief in his pocket. It is in the collection of the Library of Congress and can be found at http://www.americaslibrary.gov/pages/jb_0105_fairdeal_1_e.html. The photograph offered here was signed as United States Senator from Missouri, a position Truman held from January 3, 1935 until his resignation on January 17, 1945, three days before his inauguration as Vice President. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
