The cover pictures the 40th U.S. President on Father's Day, 1995. The cover story is "The Long Goodbye" by Eleanor Clift. On pages 32-36, an exclusive story: "The Reagans talk about their family troubles-and how the president's Alzheimer's has brought them together." This past February 6th, Ronald Reagan became just the third U.S. President to reach the age of 90. On April 19th, he passed Herbert Hoover, who died at the age of 90 years and 71 days. Only John Adams, who was 90 years and 247 days, lived longer. On November 4, 1994, in a handwritten letter, Reagan had announced he had Alzheimer's Disease. In part: "In closing, let me thank you, the American people, for giving me the great honor of allowing me to serve as your president. When the Lord calls me home, whenever that day may be, I will leave with the greatest love for this country of ours and eternal optimism for its future. I now begin the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life. I know that for America there will always be a bright dawn ahead. Thank you, my friends. May God always bless you."
