THEODORE ROOSEVELT
The President sends thanks to the father of his namesake.
Comprises: (1) TLS:
"Theodore Roosevelt" as 26th U.S. President, 1p, 6¾x8¼. The White House, 1905 October 12. To William H. Witte, Hampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia. In full: "I enclose a photograph for my namesake. Let me congratulate you upon your family, and thank you for the ferns, which pleased Mrs. Roosevelt as much as they did me." Lightly stained and soiled, mostly in blank margins. Light soiling touches "evelt" in signature. Overall, fine condition. (2) Photograph signed on mount: "with good wishes from/Theodore Roosevelt/Oct 12th 1905". Sepia, 5½x7¾ overall, image 3¾x5¾ (two surfaces). Photographer's imprint in lower right corner: "Copyright/1902/C.M. Bell Photographic Co./Washington, D.C." Lightly soiled at background. Lightly silvered. Overall, fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 22x20½.
