WILLIAM H. TAFT
The Secretary of War inscribes a photograph to a Harlem pastor.
Large Photograph inscribed and signed: "For my friend Rev. John Wesley Hill, D.D./of New York City with warm regards/March 30th 1908 Wm H. Taft" as Secretary of War. Sepia, 9x13¾ overall, image 6x9¼ (one surface). Photo by Harris and Ewing, 1908. HILL's church was at 131 West 118th Street in Harlem. Nailhead-size spot is impressed at upper right blank background of image. Creased, one at right lapel, others are at blank corners of mount, not touching signature or writing. Top corners of mount are missing, lower right corner worn. Lightly soiled at blank margins. Overall, fine appearance.
