NELSON A. ROCKEFELLER

TLS: "Nelson A. Rockefeller" as President of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, 1p, 8x10½. New York, 1957 December 13. To Karl Bendetsen, The Champion Paper and Fibre Company, Hamilton, Ohio. In full: "I hope you found the discussion on Sunday as stimulating as I did. We made a most serious effort to include the suggestions received during the session and enclosed is the revised draft of the report. The section on NATO will not be redrafted until after the conference. Should you have any more comments, Henry would appreciate having them as soon as possible. Again, many thanks for coming Sunday." In a typed postscript, Rockefeller adds: "Our 'records' do not show you as an official member of the panel. We would like very much to 'formalize' all of the support and advice you have given if it is all right with you." Rust paper clip stain at upper left blank corner, stained at lower blank margin, lightly creased. Accompanied by the "Subpanel II Report/December 14, 1957", 6p, 8½x11, separate sheets. In part: "Starting in the fall of 1956, we were charged with exploring the International Security Objectives of the United States...It is our judgment that all is not well with present U.S. security policies and operations...." Lightly creased. File holes at blank left margin. Fine condition. The Foreign Ministers of the fifteen NATO countries met in Copenhagen, Denmark, from May 5-7, 1958. NELSON A. ROCKEFELLER served as Chairman of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund Special Studies project "America at Mid Century" from 1956-1958. HENRY A. KISSINGER, referred to as "Henry" in this letter, is listed on this letterhead as "Director of Special Studies".
