Only Vice President elected by the U.S. Senate.
Address Panel franked: "Free/Rh: M: Johnson", 5¼x3½, mounted to a 5¼x3½ card. Addressed by Johnson to: "Richard Smith Esqr/City of Washington". The Kentuckian had the franking privilege while serving in the House of Representatives (1807-1819, 1829-1837), U.S. Senate (1819-1829) and as Van Buren's Vice President (1837-1841). 1¼x2½x3 diagonal area removed from upper left blank area. Folds, 1 vertical touches the "h" of Johnson. Lightly soiled. Biographical information and printed photograph affixed to verso (no show through).
