(3) Front panel of transmittal envelope, 10x8. 15-cent Oliver Wendell Holmes stamp affixed, postmarked Philadelphia, Penn., October 2, 1980. NBC logo at bottom left, typed "J. Savitch" above return address. Fine condition. Jessica Savitch captured anchor positions at stations in Houston and Philadelphia at a time when women were usually relegated to reporting news. Her ratings success at the Philadelphia station resulted in NBC News hiring her for a job at its Washington bureau. Although Savitch had chemistry with the camera and viewers liked and believed her, she was criticized by co-workers for her sub-standard writing and reporting skills, and her troubled personal life often affected her work. On October 3, 1983, her 43-second appearance on NBC News Digest gave credence to rumors of a drug problem; Savitch was seemingly inebriated and out of control. Only three weeks later, the 36-year-old anchor was killed in a car accident. Three items. SEE IF DOCUMENT 250825 IS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW!!
