In WWI, LIMAN commanded Turkish armies in the Gallipoli campaign (1915-1916) and was given supreme command in Palestine in 1918. As Commander in Chief of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force, ALLENBY took Beersheba and Gaza from the Turks in 1917 and entered Jerusalem through the gate that today bears his name, capturing the city on December 8, 1917. Allenby won a sweeping victory at Megiddo (September 19-21, 1918) in the last great mounted cavalry campaign, defeating Liman in one of the war's most decisive battles. Liman's Seventh and Eighth Armies were forced to move eastwards across the Jordan, having lost 25,000 men as British prisoners. To the north, Nazareth was seized by Allenby and Liman narrowly missed being captured. Allenby then headed north, capturing Damascus. Two items. SEE IF DOCUMENT 261117 IS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW!!
