Document 24192 MARQUIS EMMANUEL de GROUCHY Letter of introduction for a soldier's wife. ALS: "Le Mis de Grouchy", 1p, 7x9, affixed at left to 8x12 sheet. Paris, 1829 July 24. To an unnamed Baron. In French, not translated. Letter of introduction for a woman whose husband Grouchy had recommended for a position. The young man had changed residence and, because of this, he had been assigned a lower grade than he had had for the previous ten years. Grouchy commanded the French cavalry in Russia and Poland (1806-1807), Italy (1809) and France (1814) and was made a Marshal and peer of France in 1815. He commanded the cavalry reserve at Waterloo. Grouchy failed to prevent Blücher's main force from joining Wellington and failed to aid Napoléon at Waterloo. Some historians blame Grouchy for his defeat. Lightly creased. Vertical fold touches the "L" in signature. Newspaper title affixed to the bottom edge. Diagonal fold at upper right corner. Overall, fine condition. SEE IF DOCUMENT 24192 IS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW!!
