VITAS GERULAITIS
Tennis great.
Postcard Photograph signed: "Vitas Gerulaitis". Color, 4x6. Published by Snauwaert, manufacturer of tennis racquets. Brooklyn-born Vitas Gerulaitis won the 1977 Australian Open. He lost in the finals of the 1979 U.S. Open to John McEnroe and the 1980 French Open to Bjorn Borg. In 1994, the 40-year-old Gerulaitis died in the guest cottage of a friend's Long Island estate. The cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning from a faulty propane heater. Light crease at upper margin. Pinhead-size paper loss on image above signature. Slight surface wear. Overall, fine condition.
