Document 22362
LUKE FILDES. Signature: "Yours faithfully/Luke Fildes/17 Dec
'87" on verso of imprinted British post card, 4¾x3. Postmarked London,
December 17, 1887. Addressed by Fildes to: "Wilhelm Sternberg, Albany
Square, Pendleton". Signed the year British painter and illustrator
Samuel Luke Fildes (1844-1927) became a member of the Royal Academy and was
commissioned by Henry Tate to paint The Doctor. Knighted in 1906, Fildes
was one of the most highly paid portrait painters of his day. His subjects
included Edward VII, whom he painted on his deathbed, and other members of
Britain's Royal family. Perforated upper edge. Postmark ink touches "Yours".
Lightly soiled. Tip of lower corner missing. Slight surface nick on address
side.
