Document 252378 MAX FLEISCHER Brought Koko the Clown, Betty Boop and Popeye to life. Postcard Image signed: "Max Fleischer" in purple ink. Color, 3½x6¼. Depicts Koko the Clown, Betty Boop and Bimbo, who "just stepped out of the movies to hang around with you!" Captioned at lower margin: "Here They Are!/Paramount Funmakers At/Your Service. Sincerely yours,/Fleischer Studios Inc." The recipient's name is inserted in the printed greeting. Addressed on verso in another hand to W.E. Mouery, Mt. Carmel, Pa. 1½-cent Harding stamp affixed, postmarked New York, 1932. Cartoonist Max Fleisher's studio, which pioneered sound cartoons in 1924, introduced such animated creations as Koko the Clown, Betty Boop, Popeye and Superman. Koko, the star of Out of the Inkwell, was known for "escaping" from the drawing to interact with Fleischer. Betty Boop, introduced in Dizzy Dishes in 1930, was censored in 1934 -- her skirt had to be lowered and her famous garter removed. Stray pencil notes (unknown hand) on address side. Fine condition.
