     Document 23867

LORD NORTH
British Prime Minister during the Revolutionary War.
Signature: "North", 1¾x1. Cut from a document, mounted to a page of similar size. Frederick North, 2nd Earl of Guilford, son of 7th Baron North, entered the House of Commons in 1754 at the age of 22. He served as Lord of the Treasury (1759-1765) and Chancellor of the Exchequer (1767) before becoming Prime Minister in 1770. King George III dominated North's ministry and pursued the ruinous policy that led to the American Revolution. Upon hearing of Cornwallis' surrender, North resigned in 1782. Fine condition.
