CATHEDRAL CHANTS: VINCENT NOVELLO
Nine original sacred chants.
Autograph Musical Manuscript signed: "Composed by Vincent Novello/August 1844" and inscribed and signed: "For my brother Chant-Composer, Mr. Pickering, of Royston,/with my best wishes for the perfect restoration of his health./V.N. Octr 1844", 2¼p, 10x8. Titled by him "Cathedral Chants", Novello has penned nine complete chants. Novello has also penned 96 words explaining how he wrote the chants. In 1811, English composer and organist VINCENT NOVELLO (1781-1861) arranged a collection of sacred music and founded the publishing house of Novello & Co. He introduced to England previously unknown compositions of Haydn and Mozart. Novello was an original member and frequent conductor of the Philharmonic Society. Lightly foxed. The pages are affixed at their juncture by a mounting strip, but there is now a 1-inch separation and slight paper scuff in blank area at bottom. Mid-vertical fold. Lightly creased. Lightly soiled. Printed biography 2½x¾ affixed on blank verso, lightly shows through to blank area of last page. Slightly nicked edges.
