BOBBY LAYNE
ALS: "Bobby Layne", 1p, 3¾x5. No place or date but with original envelope addressed by Layne to Foster Roberson in Oakland, California, postmarked Austin, Texas, October 29, 1946. Slightly stained, else fine. In full: "Thanks for your card. I appreciated hearing from you. Best Wishes." Chevron shape yellow stain touches text and "L" in signature. Layne (1926-1986) led the Detroit Lions to four divisional and three NFL titles in the 1950s. An exceptional field leader, the Pro Football Hall of Famer was at his best in the clutch. Layne's last-second TD pass won the 1953 NFL title game. He also kicked field goals. Layne was quarterback for the Chicago Bears (1948), New York Bulldogs (1949), Detroit Lions (1950-1958) and Pittsburgh Steelers (1958-1962). Two items.
