     Document 32502

TRUMAN CAPOTE. ALS: "T.", 2p, front and verso, 7x10. New York, 1967 November 25. On his personal letterhead to his aunt, Marie Rudisill, Charlotte, N.C. In full: "Darlin, Tiny-I think parts of your article are excellent-well written. But it is not properly constructed, not sufficiently professional to be published in this form. Actually, I think you ought to write a small book of personal memories about your own youth and young womanhood in New York-in which I am not the central figure but simply a part of it. I think that this would be good and publishable. On the other hand, perhaps I could find a good ghost to rewrite the present piece-put it into professional shape. Would you like me to try? Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! I love you!" Novelist Truman Capote (1924-1985) wrote Breakfast at Tiffany's in 1958. He then introduced the genre of the non-fiction novel when he published In Cold Blood in 1966, the year before he wrote this letter. MARIE RUDISILL, known for her fruitcakes, penned a book called Fruitcake: Memories of Truman Capote and Sook (2000). Sook Faulk was Capote's cousin. Pencil notes in unknown hand in upper right blank area. Slightly creased. Ink show through, lightly stained. Overall, fine condition. Accompanied by envelope addressed in his hand. Stamp removed, affecting postmark. Torn top edge, soiled. On verso, return address corrected in his hand. Two items.
