Document 154778 BOSTON CORBETT Killed John Wilkes Booth. Rare signature: "Boston Corbett", 4x2 card. Gold gilt edges. President Abraham Lincoln was shot by actor John Wilkes Booth in Ford's Theater, Washington, D.C. on the evening of April 14, 1865 and died the next morning. Corbett was one of 26 cavalrymen assigned to pursue Lincoln's assassin. On April 26, 1865, Booth was discovered in a barn at the Garrett Farm in Port Royal, Virginia. When he refused to surrender, the barn was set ablaze. A shot was fired into the burning barn by Sergeant Boston Corbett, killing Booth. "Providence directed me," he later said.
