     Document 253881

BESS TRUMAN. ALS: "Bess Truman", 2p, 5x3½. No place or date but with original 5¼x3¾ envelope, postmarked Independence, Mo., February 14, 1967, addressed by Mrs. Truman to "Mr. Leonard Lyons/1 West 81st Street/New York/N.Y." Slightly soiled, top edge frayed from opening. On separate conjoined sheets of her monogrammed stationery. In full: "Thank you so much for the fine supply of books. They were real 'lifesavers' at times as we were snowbound two different times this winter. We enjoyed all of them. I love Sylvia's grandmother prayer. It is very clever and I am so very glad you sent it to me. It is wonderful you at last have a girl in the family. I hope she looks like Sylvia. My best to both of you." LEONARD LYONS was a syndicated newspaper columnist for the "New York Post". Slightly creased. Pencil note on verso of signature page (probably by Lyons). Fine condition. Two items.
