Document 263060
GERALD R. FORD. Photograph signed: "Gerald Ford". Color,
10x8. President Reagan and former Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter are pictured
in the White House smiling and holding drinks. Reagan and Carter each has a
glass with an orange liquid in it, Nixon is holding a cup and Ford has a bottle
in his hand. The three former Presidents were at the White House on October
8, 1981, about to leave for the funeral of assassinated Egyptian President Anwar
Sadat in Cairo. President Reagan had decided it was too great a risk for him to
go; he had survived an assassination attempt just six months earlier. Because of
the jovial mood of this photograph, it was not released to the press until 1982.
This was the first time four U.S. Presidents met together in the White House and
the first time four U.S. Presidents were photographed together. Fine
condition.
