Governor Cleveland notifies Bonnell & Valentine that the State Board of Health, asked by him "to examine into nuisances affecting the security of life and health in Long Island City, and in the Town of Newtown, County of Queens", has found that "the business carried on in and about the locality aforesaid by the persons hereinabove named, to be a nuisance in this, to wit: that offensive gases, vapors and odors, and deleterious matter, are allowed to escape into the atmosphere."
