Document 17168 JOHN TYLER Address leaf penned and franked as former President. Address Leaf franked at upper right: "J. Tyler", 7½x7¾. Addressed by Tyler to: "Revd. Wm. Tyler/Northampton/Massachusetts". Manuscript postal marking at upper left: "Charles City Court/House Va Nov/13 1850". Docketed, possibly by Reverend Tyler: "Letter/Hon John Tyler/12th Nov 1850." [There were two prominent William Tylers who were clergymen living in Massachusetts when Tyler addressed this panel.] The word "Genealogy" appears at the upper left in an unknown hand, most probably relating to the letter's content, so it is possible that Rev. Tyler was a relative. John Tyler was born in Charles City County, Virginia and his family continued their ties there. After leaving the White House on March 3, 1845, Tyler moved to his estate, Sherwood Forest, on the James River in Virginia. The estate was once owned by his predecessor, William Henry Harrison, in the late 1700s. Creased with folds. Yellowed and foxed at folds. Worn, torn edges. Lightly stained. Contemporary notations in blue ink at upper left and right margins, which when folded horizontally along with the bottom portion would not affect Tyler's signature or writing. Tape remnants at lower left blank portion of address panel. SEE IF DOCUMENT 17168 IS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW!!
