MARTIN VAN BUREN and JOHN FORSYTH. Partly Printed DS: "M. Van Buren" as President and "John Forsyth" as Secretary of State, 1p, 14x12. On vellum. Washington, 1838 November 16. President VAN BUREN has recognized the appointment of John C. Sang as "Consul of His Majesty The King of Prussia, for the Port of Philadelphia". Frederick William III was King of Prussia from 1797-1840. JOHN FORSYTH served as Secretary of State under Presidents Jackson and Van Buren (1834-1841). Folds, vertical folds touch "th" in Forsyth. Lightly soiled. Tape remnants from mounting on verso show through to margins. 2½-inch seal missing, striations in its place. Van Buren's signature in blue ink. "M" is light but totally legible.
