Document 16980
RONALD REAGAN. Partly Printed Check signed: "Ronald
Reagan", 5¾x2½. Hollywood, Calif., 1948 June 11. Filled out by the
37-year-old actor to "Cash" for $100.00, drawn on the Bank of
America. Five days earlier, wife Jane Wyman sued Reagan for divorce
alleging "mental cruelty". Speculation about reasons for the breakup ranged
from Reagan's obsession with politics (he had become President of the Screen
Actors Guild just seven months earlier) and allegations of Wyman's affair with
Lew Ayres, her co-star in Johnny Belinda for which she won the 1948
Academy Award for Best Actress. Red "B" written in pencil in unidentified hand,
touches "d R" of signature. Two tiny cancellation holes just nick the first "R".
Light pencil notes in 2 blank areas. Overall, fine condition.
