ULYSSES S. GRANT. Partly Printed Presidential Warrant signed: "U.S. Grant" as President, 1p, 7¾x9¾. Washington, 1877 February 26. In full: "I hereby authorize and direct the Secretary of State [Hamilton Fish] to affix the Seal of the United States to a Warrant for the pardon of Edgar R. Purce dated this day, and signed by me and for so doing this shall be his warrant." Grant held the record for most presidential pardons (1,332) until it was shattered by Wilson (2,480). This pardon was issued in the last six days of Grant's eight years as President. Fine condition.
