HELEN STEPHENS. Typescript signed: "Helen Stephens",
2p, 8½x11. Excerpt from The Complete Book of the Olympics, by David
Wallechinsky, describing Stephens' gold medal in women's 100-meter track at the
1936 Berlin Olympic Games. Stephens ran the 100-meter race in 11.5 seconds,
setting a world record that stood for 24 years. The 18-year-old American runner
captured a second gold medal as anchor of the 4x100-meter relay team.
Stephens was one of the top women athletes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In
1938 she became the first woman owner and manager of an all-woman
semiprofessional basketball team, "The Helen Stephens Olympic Co-eds".
Stephens died in 1993. Pages stapled, slightly creased at upper left corner.
