Document 81221
ROBERT DUNDAS. Signature: "Melville". 6x2½. Cut from
franked address leaf, a portion of which is present. In Dundas' hand:
"Overton ninth April 1830./John Miller Esqr/Admiralty
Office/London". Postmarked: "Free 10 April 1830". Mounted on 7½x5
sheet with printed biography. Member of Parliament from 1796-1811, Robert Dundas
(1771-1851) served as Privy Councilor in 1807, was President of the Board of
Control (1807, 1809) and was First Lord of the Admiralty (1812-1827). He became
Viscount Melville upon the death of his father in 1811. Melville Sound in the
Arctic was named in his honor. Mount slightly creased. 2x1½ piece missing from
lower left-hand corner of sheet. 2 file holes at right blank edge. Overall, fine
condition.
